  • AT&T Turbo Is Official as Carrier Adds $7 Monthly Add-On for Priority Access to Network

AT&T Turbo Is Official as Carrier Adds $7 Monthly Add-On for Priority Access to Network

If you want priority access to AT&T’s network, be prepared to pay $7 more per line, per month. On Wednesday, the carrier announced AT&T Turbo, its new offering that gives users “the choice to purchase enhanced data connectivity for real-time responsiveness and improved stability.”

AT&T says the feature, which goes live on Thursday, is built for “high-performance” applications like gaming, video conferencing or live broadcasting of videos on social media. When activated it will boost the connection quality for all data on that line, including hotspot data. The company says it should make its wireless service more responsive by “adding additional network resources” to your connection compared to other non-Turbo, regular AT&T users.

FirstNet, AT&T’s network for first responders, will continue to have higher network priority over both Turbo and regular AT&T users.

Read more: Our Picks for the Best AT&T Plans

Because it’s boosting all data and not favoring any particular type of content or applications, AT&T says the new feature complies with “open internet principles” and the Federal Communications Commission’s recent draft net neutrality order.

AT&T previously leaked that it was working on Turbo in an update to its myAT&T app. Once it goes live on Thursday, users will be able to add the feature either through the app or by adjusting their service online at AT&T’s website.

In its press release announcing Turbo, the carrier says that it will work for “eligible plans” and that users can add Turbo “when they want it and remove it from their line when they don’t.” An AT&T spokesperson tells CNET that those plans include its latest Premium PL and Extra EL options, as well as the older Elite plan, with Turbo being a monthly add-on to individual lines that have those plans.

The spokesperson confirmed to CNET that those who don’t opt for Turbo “will still receive the same level of service they have today.”

It is unclear just how notable the boost might be. Unlike Verizon, AT&T doesn’t limit access to its fastest 5G networks based on which plan you have, with Turbo seemingly just giving users a priority connection compared to other regular AT&T customers. In areas where AT&T’s network isn’t busy, having Turbo may not make much of a difference at all.

  • When Is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon’s Prime Day is usually chockablock with deep discounts and doorbusters that bring back crowds of bargain hunters year after year. While Amazon has experimented with October sales in recent years, and a new Big Spring Sale earlier this year, the main Prime Day bonanza usually takes place in the summer — and 2024 will be no different.

Shoppers looking to snag must-have items and can’t-miss price drops won’t have to wait too much longer. Amazon’s Prime Day sale is set to take place this coming July, where we’re sure to see plenty of exclusive offers available to Prime members across a wide array of product categories. And other retail giants may also offer competing sales of their own, so we’ll keep you up to date on all the best bargains from around the web. We’ll also be covering everything essential, from how to prepare for the big event to preventing porch pirates, along with the secret way to score great deals without paying for Prime.

    Amazon’s Prime Day 2024 date

Amazon has announced that Prime Day 2024 will take place in July, though the company hasn’t yet put an exact date on the 10th iteration of its Prime Day event. We’d wager the event will take place on July 9 and 10, the week after Fourth of July sales wrap up, but we’ll be keeping our fingers on the pulse of the upcoming sale, and you can count on us to keep you updated as the information is released.

In the past, some discounts were released earlier than the main sale to entice customers. If there is another early price drop sale before the event’s arrival, we’ll be sure to keep you informed, so organized shoppers can jump ahead of the crowd for top tech deals and all those back-to-school, summertime and household necessities.

    Amazon deals to shop now

You don’t have to wait to cash in on big savings, though. Check out these bargains that are live now.

    Previous Amazon Prime Day dates

Since Amazon launched its inaugural Prime Day sale way back in 2015, the company has (mostly) scheduled the event around the same time of year. In fact, outside of a couple of recent years when the dates were shifted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon historically tends to kick off the sale somewhere within the middle two weeks of July.

Here are all of the previous Amazon Prime Day dates:

    • Prime Day 2015: July 15
    • Prime Day 2016: July 12
    • Prime Day 2017: July 11 to 12
    • Prime Day 2018: July 16 to 17
    • Prime Day 2019: July 15 to 16
    • Prime Day 2020: Oct. 13 to 14
    • Prime Day 2021: June 21 to 22
    • Prime Day 2022: July 12 to 13
    • Prime Early Access Sale 2022: Oct. 11 to 12
    • Prime Day 2023: July 11 to 12
    • Prime Big Deal Days 2023: Oct. 10 to 11

As you can see, Prime Day was pretty much locked into an early- to mid-July schedule for its first five years before uncertainty around the pandemic in 2020 caused the company to push the sale back to the fall of that year. Then in 2021, Amazon was quick to bring it forward in the calendar once again, kicking off the event in an uncharacteristic June slot.

For 2022, Amazon returned the event to its customary July spot, kicking off on July 12, though the October slot was used for the Prime Early Access Sale, marking the first time the company had hosted two Prime Day-like sales in one year. Amazon followed that pattern for 2023 with a July Prime Day proper followed by a second Prime Day of sorts in October with the company’s Prime Big Deal Days event. With a July date now confirmed for 2024, we will keep our eyes peeled for any news about a second event this fall.

  • ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3: Release Date, Trailer and Everything to Know

‘Bridgerton’ Season 3: Release Date, Trailer and Everything to Know

Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope.

It’s May, which means Bridgerton’s third season premiere is just a short carriage ride away. The Netflix series known for soirées, scandals and sweltering hot romances is turning things over to Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, or “Polin,” for short.

Based on Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series, Netflix’s hugely popular Regency-era show follows the fictional Bridgerton siblings and (so far) details their love stories. Season 3 will be the first not to follow the order of Quinn’s novels, twirling past the third book about Colin’s brother Benedict to focus on the fourth. (But that doesn’t mean the show won’t get to Benedict eventually.) Whereas last season told Anthony and Kate’s enemies-to-lovers saga, this season could potentially push Polin from close pals to something more.

Season 3 is a two-parter with release dates in May and June. Bridgerton will return for season 4, but here’s what you need to know about the next sure-to-be-swoon-worthy season of the show.

When does the new season drop?

Grab a quill (or a more contemporary writing utensil) because you need to jot down two release dates for Bridgerton’s third season.

The first date, marking the release of the first four episodes, is May 16, and the remaining four eps arrive on June 13. You’ll be able to watch the new drops beginning at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT.

Here are all the episodes in the two-part season:

Episode 1 – Out of the Shadows

Episode 2 – How Bright the Moon

Episode 3 – Forces of Nature

    Episode 4 – Old Friends

    Episode 5 – Tick Tock

Episode 6 – Romancing Mister Bridgerton

Episode 7 – Joining of Hands

Episode 8 – Into the Light

What can I expect this season?

Bridgerton is set in London in the early 1800s (well, a fantasy version) and has rotated between the romances of Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset/the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Now, Colin (Luke Newton), the third Bridgerton son, and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), the third Featherington daughter, are finally the main characters, and audiences will find out “how (or if…)” they go from friends to lovers, according to Netflix.

In addition to friendship, hidden feelings have been part of Polin’s journey so far. Season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell told Entertainment Weekly that setup made it the right time to have Polin’s season. “We’ve spent two seasons really getting to know Penn and Colin. We’ve been watching Penn’s crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it. That’s a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change,” Brownell told the magazine.

    Nicola Coughlan as Penelope.

Season 3 won’t be a promenade in the park for Colin following the events of the season 2 finale. The season will catch up with Polin after Pen overheard Colin saying he would never dream of courting her. Brownell told the magazine that, in terms of recovering from that, “we’re going to make him work for it.”

If Colin previously had the upper hand, that’ll no longer be the case in season 3. Newton told Bustle “Nic and I have talked so many times about how Colin always held the power in their relationship because of how she felt toward him. It was fun to play the complete swap of that, of how she gains this power and confidence. We flipped everything on its head.”

    The full synopsis, please

If you’re desperate for details like you’d be the contents of a thrilling scandal sheet, Netflix has provided a lengthy synopsis about Bridgerton season 3. The rundown includes some spoilers related to a certain Lady Whistledown. (If you don’t know what I mean, better bail now and watch some Bridgerton).

Per Netflix, season 3 “finds Penelope Featherington has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.”

Luke Newton and Nicola Coughlan as Colin and Penelope.

“Meanwhile,” according to Netflix, “Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”

    Who’s in the cast

In addition to Newton, Coughlan, Jessie, Ashley and Bailey, the season 3 returning cast includes Luke Thompson as Benedict, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton, Lorraine Ashbourne as Mrs. Varley, Harriet Cains as Philipa Featherington, Bessie Carter as Prudence Featherington, Jessica Madsen as Cressida Cowper, Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton, Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich, Will Tilston as Gregory Bridgerton, Polly Walker as Portia Featherington and Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown.

Hannah Dodd is taking over as Francesca Bridgerton, and other new cast members include Daniel Francis as Marcus Anderson, James Phoon as Harry Dankworth and Sam Phillips as Lord Debling, Pen’s suitor. Page, who starred in season 1 alongside Dynevor, confirmed via Instagram that he won’t be in this season, and the same might apply to Dynevor, who told Screenrant she’s “just excited to watch (season 3) as a viewer.”

The cast of Bridgerton season 3.

Will there be a season 4 of Bridgerton? Which sibling is next?

Yes! Netflix renewed Bridgerton for seasons 3 and 4 back in 2021, but which Bridgerton sibling season 4 will center on is still anyone’s guess. There’s a book for each of the eight siblings, and while the show has strayed from their order, executive producer Shonda Rimes told Entertainment Tonight the aim is to follow each of the sib’s romantic stories (presumably over eight seasons). Benedict, who would have been up if the show stuck to Quinn’s sequence, could be the chosen one for season 4.

The end of season 3 will include clues as to which sibling is up next, according to Brownell in an interview with TV Insider.

    Is there a trailer?

Indeed. In the official trailer, Eloise is clinging to Cressida instead of her usual bestie Pen. That definitely has to do with Pen and Eloise’s heavy fight last season, but it’s still tough to see Pen’s pained facial expression.

Colin, now looking “sturdier” than ever, wants to help Pen in her quest to find a husband and escape the Featherington household. But the consequences of the finale haven’t played out for them, either. Will friendships mend? Will Penelope find a match? The prolonged eye contact in this trailer is giving me my suspicions.

What else can I watch right now?

Season 3 won’t leave out last season’s love match — enemies-turned-lovers Kate and Anthony. They still seem happy together, according to the following clip, which includes Dodd, the new actress playing Francesca.

In another peek at season 3, Pen and Colin’s chemistry is on display while Pen appears to be practicing for the real deal with her favorite Bridgerton son. There’s also this tense clip showing Pen confronting Colin about his stinging words last season. It’s a bit spoiler-y if you’d rather wait to watch the confrontation on the show.

  • Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 Just Plummeted to a New All-Time Low at Amazon

Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 Just Plummeted to a New All-Time Low at Amazon

Apple’s AirPods Pro earbuds are hugely popular, but their usual $249 asking price can be enough to put plenty of people off. They’re definitely not the most affordable option out there, that’s for sure. But if you act fast you can bag them with a $70 discount, slashing the price to just $179. That’s the lowest price we’ve ever seen Amazon sell these wireless earbuds for but we don’t know how long that will last. Walmart and Best Buy are offering the same low price, too. If picking up a bargain pair of AirPods Pro is high on your list of priorities, we’d suggest striking now while you still can.

Even with a refreshed AirPods lineup potentially on the horizon, Apple’s second-gen AirPods Pro are still among the best noise-canceling earbuds you’re likely to find. They sport Apple’s transparency mode for when you need to be more aware of your surroundings, and they can automatically optimize their volume based on your environment. In use, the earbuds promise an impressive battery life of up to 30 hours on a single charge (including the battery life stored in the charging case). They also instantly pair and switch between Apple devices, making these wireless earbuds a joy to use for those in the Apple ecosystem.

If you plan on buying these to use with your Apple Vision Pro headset, you’ll enjoy support for 20-bit/48 kHz lossless audio with ultralow latency. The Apple Vision Pro has its own built-in speakers so AirPods aren’t an essential add-on, but they do allow for a more immersive — and private — viewing experience if you want to lose yourself in a movie.

Not into Apple’s buds or looking for headphones instead? There are tons of headphone and earbud deals available right now.

  • If Your iPhone Responds Too Slowly to Your Touch, This Might Be the Fix

If Your iPhone Responds Too Slowly to Your Touch, This Might Be the Fix

When you press and hold your finger down on your iPhone and feel a tiny vibration, that’s haptic feedback.

Apple’s version of this technology is called Haptic Touch, and it allows you to do a number of things across the iOS ecosystem by long-pressing your finger on your display. It mostly brings up menus filled with actions, like delete, share or view more, but it’s also how you get your apps into “jiggle mode” and turn live photos into videos.

I use it all the time to quickly change the intensity of my phone’s flashlight and use my keyboard as a touch pad.

Haptic Touch in action on the iPhone

It’s a useful feature to quickly and efficiently navigate iOS, akin to keyboard shortcuts on your computer, but if you feel like Haptic Touch is a little too slow for you, you’re not the only one.

There are people out there, including me, who feel that Haptic Touch is too slow to react. Apple’s previous haptic technology for the iPhone was 3D Touch, and it worked by pressure sensitivity, not length of time, and so it was punchier than Haptic Touch.

Apple replaced 3D Touch with Haptic Touch in 2018 with the release of the iPhone XR.

Now, we’re stuck with Haptic Touch, for better or worse, but there is an easier way to make Haptic Touch faster, so that it more closely resembles 3D Touch. Here’s where you can find the setting to make the change.

For more, check out how to travel back in time with this hidden Google Maps feature and why the new iPhone’s display size might change this year.

17 Hidden iOS 17 Features You Should Definitely Know About

    See all photos

How to make Haptic Touch faster on your iPhone

In the Settings application, go to Accessibility > Touch > Haptic Touch. You have three touch duration options to choose from:

    • Fast
    • Default
    • Slow

Note: This feature is only available on iOS 17.

Underneath the various touch duration options, you can test out the speed. All you need to do is tap your preferred settings and then long-press on the image of the orange flower with the blue sky background.

Haptic Touch settings on iOS 17

Once you’re set on a choice, simply exit the Settings app.

Obviously I chose the fastest option, because I want the haptic feedback to feel almost instantaneous, but I suggest you try out all three settings to figure out which is the best for you. You might even prefer a slower reaction to Haptic Touch, so test out all three before making a decision.

While you’re here, check out all the new features on iOS 17.4.

Google’s Pixel 7A Sees Price Slashed to New All-Time Low Ahead of Pixel 8A Reveal

The affordable Google Pixel 7A is a great way to get a flagship-like phone without paying flagship-level prices. And though a number of Pixel 7A deals have popped up of late, the current $160 discount at Woot is the best we’ve seen to date. With Google I/O 2024 now just around the corner and a Pixel 8A likely to be on the way, the Pixel 7A might not be long for this world. But at the incredible price of just $340, it’s getting one hell of a sendoff. The downside? You’ll have to choose between the rather sedate blue (sea) and black (charcoal) colors. Prefer one of the other colors? Read on.

Prefer to get your new phone from Amazon instead? The Pixel 7A is down to just $349 there for a limited time, but only in the charcoal color. Best Buy is also matching the $349 price, this time with more color options and Google has also slashed the price by $150, including the lovely coral finish you can see at the top of this page. All of these options do cost a little more than Woot’s deal, but it’s good to have choices, right?

Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.

Even though the Pixel 7A is designed to be an entry-level device, it’s still plenty powerful and has taken the crown as the best phone under $500. It also has a 64-megapixel camera and a 6.1-inch, 90Hz display, plus nice extras such as face unlock and wireless charging — notable upgrades over previous Pixel A phones, which help close the gap between the affordable Pixel line and more premium flagships. Mixed usage battery life should be up to 24 hours, too.

    Everyday Wordle tips

I’ve written a lot about Wordle — from covering its 1,000th word to my list of the best starter words to a helpful two-step strategy to news about controversial word changes. I’ve even rounded up what I learned playing the hit online word puzzle for a full year. So if you’re rethinking your need for the actual answer, you might try tips from one of those stories.

Still need a starter word? One person told me they just look around and choose a five-letter object that they’ve spotted to use as their starter word — such as COUCH or CHAIR. I tend to stick to starter words that have the most popular letters used in English words. I like TRAIN as a starter, though I have a friend who uses TRAIL. I’ve read that people use the financial term ROATE, but I like to use words I actually know.

    What is Wordle?

If you read this far, you know how to play. You have six chances to guess a five-letter word, and the game gives you feedback as to whether the letters you’ve guessed are in the puzzle, and if they’re in the same spot where you guessed they are. The New York Times bought the game from creator Josh Wardle for seven figures in 2022. Wardle famously created the game for his partner, and let her narrow down the 12,000 five-letter words in the English language to just 2,500, creating the database of answers. It was convenient, too, that he has a name that plays off “word.”

A Times spokesperson told me it lists the very first Wordle as appearing on June 19, 2021, and the paper celebrated the game’s 1,000th word on March 15. Spoiler: That 1000th word was ERUPT. As in, “Dad will erupt if the Wordle is so tough he loses his streak.”

There are other fun games in the Times Games stable. My latest addiction is Connections, which I think is trickier than Wordle. This is the game where you look at a grid of 16 words and try to put them into four groups of related words. Sometimes the relationships between the words are pretty out there — like the time when it was four words that all began with rock bands, such as “Rushmore” and “journeyman.” (Connections got a little sassy on April Fools’ Day with an all-emoji puzzle. Some gamers did NOT find that funny.)

Spelling Bee is a popular Times game too. And there’s a new game that’s still in beta, Strands, which I’m trying to master.

    Today’s NYT Connections Hints & Answer — Help for May 1, #325

Need the answer for the May 1 New York Times Connections puzzle? To me, Wordle is more of a vocabulary test, but Connections is more of a brain tester. You’re given 16 words and asked to put them into four groups that are somehow connected. Sometimes they’re obvious, but the game editor knows how to trick you by using words that can fit in more than one group.

    How to play Connections?

Playing is easy, winning is hard. Look at the 16 words and mentally assign them to related groups of four. Click on the four words you think go together. The groups are coded by color, though you don’t know what goes where until you see the answers. The yellow group is the easiest, then green, then blue, and purple is the toughest. Look at the words carefully and think about related terms. Sometimes the connection has to do with just a part of the word. Once, four words were grouped because each started with the name of a rock band — including “Rushmore” and “Journeyman.”
