  • UConn vs. Purdue Livestream: How to Watch the NCAA Championship Tonight

UConn vs. Purdue Livestream: How to Watch the NCAA Championship Tonight

Tonight’s national championship between No. 1 UConn and No. 1 Purdue has an old-school feel to it. In an era where guard play and the three-point shots have dominated college basketball, the headliners of tonight’s game are neither ball handlers nor long-distance shooters but are big men who live in the lane and protect the rim. Centers Zach Edey of Purdue and Donovan Clingan of UConn are leading the pre-game chatter.

Edey, a 7-foot, 4-inch senior and back-to-back player of the year, has averaged 28 points, 15.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game during the tournament. He has looked unguardable at times as he’s overpowered smaller opponents, but he’ll have someone nearly his size guarding him tonight. Clingan is a 7-foot, 2-inch sophomore who isn’t as much of a focus on offense for UConn as Edey is for Purdue, but he has been elite on the defensive end, averaging 3.6 blocks per game in the tournament.

UConn is seeking to become the first school to repeat as national champions since Florida in 2006 and 2007. Purdue is hoping to follow the path of Virginia, who became the first No. 1 seed to lose in the first round to a 16 seed in 2018 and then turned around and won the national championship as a No. 1 seed the following year. Purdue became only the second No. 1 seed to lose in the opening round when it was ousted by Fairleigh Dickinson last year, a loss that likely played a large role in Edey foregoing the NBA draft and returning for his senior season.

UConn and Purdue tip off tonight at 9:20 p.m. ET (6:20 p.m. PT) on TBS.

How can I watch or stream March Madness?

At this stage in the tourney, you need just one channel — TBS — for the championship game.

You can watch TBS with a cable subscription or a live TV streaming service, but the most affordable option is signing up for a month of Max. With the basic, ad-supported $10-a-month Max streaming service, you can watch the TBS broadcast of the National Championship game tonight.

Does Max have a free trial?

No, Max does not offer a free trial. The streaming service is offering a deal of 40% off for the first year if you subscribe with its annual plan option. For the “With Ads” version, that would be $70 for the year, which amounts to $5.83 per month.

Which devices can I use to watch March Madness?

You’ll find an app for the Max streaming service to watch on an iPhone or Android phone as well as an iPad, Android tablet or Amazon Fire tablet. Max is also available on mainstream streaming platforms including Roku, Apple TV, Android TV/Google TV and Fire TV, as well as smart televisions from major manufacturers LG, Samsung and Vizio. It is also accessible through Xbox and PlayStation game consoles.

For more specifics, check out the full list of supported devices for Max.

What’s the best live TV streaming service for March Madness?

After Max for $10 a month, Sling TV at $40 per month is the next cheapest option for watching the National Championship on TBS.

With its multi-view capability, YouTube TV was a great pick for earlier in the tournament if you wanted to watch more than one game at a time, but that’s not a concern at this stage of the tournament with only one game left. YouTube TV, along with Hulu with Live TV and DirecTV Stream offer TBS.

Can I stream March Madness for free?

Go to the NCAA’s March Madness Live site or use its March Madness Live app and you’ll be able to watch games for free. You can watch March Madness Live on iOS and Android devices along with Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV and Xbox. The app also supports AirPlay and Chromecast.

As with most things that are free, there’s a catch. Without proving you’re a pay TV subscriber, you get only a three-hour preview, after which point you’ll need to log in to continue watching.

All of the live TV streaming services above offer free trials, allow you to cancel anytime and require a solid internet connection. Looking for more information? Check out our live TV streaming services guide.

  • This 50-Inch Vizio 4K TV Is One of Our Faves and It’s Now Yours for Just $223

This 50-Inch Vizio 4K TV Is One of Our Faves and It’s Now Yours for Just $223

When it comes to picking the best TV for your home, it isn’t always about just getting the biggest screen you can afford. It’s all about having the right features as well, and sometimes that doesn’t necessarily mean picking the biggest names, either. The 50-inch Vizio V-Series TV has everything you’re likely to need at a price you can afford — in fact, it’s the best price we’ve seen for this model to date. This TV is just $223 right now, making this a great option for the bedroom, den or just about anywhere else that might be in need of an upgrade. Walmart will sell you the monster 65-inch model for $348 right now as well, a great option for those with a little more room — and cash — to spare.

We found the 4K Vizio V-Series to be the best overall option when we did our testing of the best budget TVs on the market. Picture quality was particularly impressive when we did our side-by-side comparisons and with support for Dolby Vision and the V-Gaming Engine for a smoother gaming experience, it’s easy to see why.

The main downside to the V-Series is the smart platform it runs, Vizio SmartCast. It lets you access all the streaming apps you’d expect, and it has voice control, but it isn’t the fastest or easiest to use, and it can get bogged down by ads at times. Thankfully, there are plenty of HDMI ports on the back for hooking up other streaming devices, so you can add a Roku or Amazon streaming stick with both being big upgrades. The TV also supports Chromecast and AirPlay so you can mirror your phone, tablet, or computer as well.

We’re big fans of this TV and this price makes it one of the best cheap TV deals around right now, whether you opt for the cheaper 50-inch model or that massive 65-inch version.

  • HBO’s Brandy Melville Documentary: When You Can Stream It on Max

HBO’s Brandy Melville Documentary: When You Can Stream It on Max

Teen clothing brand Brandy Melville is the subject of a new HBO documentary with a not-so-subtle title: Brandy Hellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion.

The film, which will premiere on HBO and Max next week, taps former employees and executives to reveal more about the company, according to an HBO press release. The doc promises to uncover Brandy Melville’s “toxic culture” and the global consequences of fast fashion, according to the release.

“This place is not your conventional clothing company,” a woman says in the trailer. There’s then reference to the brand’s limited sizing. Later in the trailer, search results related to losing weight to fit into the brand’s clothes appear onscreen. Read on to find out what time the doc debuts, and how a VPN can help you stream it on Max.

When to watch Brandy Hellville & the Cult of Fast Fashion

In the US? You can watch the documentary on Tuesday, April 9. It’ll hit Max at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). It’ll also air on HBO at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).

How to watch the Brandy Melville documentary from anywhere with a VPN

Perhaps you’re traveling abroad and want to stream Max while away from home. With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to access the movie from anywhere in the world. There are other good reasons to use a VPN for streaming, too.

A VPN is the best way to stop your internet service provider from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic. Using a VPN is also a great idea if you’re traveling and want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and log-ins when connecting to Wi-Fi networks. Streaming TV can be a bit smoother with a reliable, quality VPN that’s passed our tests and security standards.

You can use a VPN to stream content legally as long as VPNs are allowed in your country and you have a valid subscription to the streaming service you’re using. The US and Canada are among the countries where VPNs are legal, but we advise against streaming or downloading content on illegal torrent sites. We recommend ExpressVPN, but you may opt for another provider from our best list such as Surfshark or NordVPN.

Follow the VPN provider’s instructions for installation, and choose the United States, where the Brandy Melville doc will be streaming on Max. Before you open the streaming app, make sure you are connected to your VPN using your selected region. If you want to stream the documentary on more than one device, it’s possible that you’ll need to configure each one to ensure you are signed in. Go to settings and check your network connections to verify that you’re logged in and connected to your VPN account. Now you’re ready to open Max to stream.

If you run into issues with streaming, first make sure your VPN is up and running on its encrypted IP address. Double-check that you’ve followed installation instructions correctly and picked the right geographical area for viewing. If you still encounter connection problems, you may need to reboot your device. Close all apps and windows, restart your device and connect to your VPN first. Note that some streaming services will restrict VPN access.

  • Spotify Unveils AI Playlists: How to Find and Use the New Feature

Spotify Unveils AI Playlists: How to Find and Use the New Feature

Music streaming service Spotify on Sunday announced that Premium subscribers can create AI-generated playlists using phrases, but at the moment it’s only available in the UK and Australia.

The feature involves typing a prompt into a text box within the Spotify mobile app, such as, “I want songs about purple.” The ability expands on existing auto-generated features like the AI DJ and Daily Mix.

The company says that the service is in beta, but it plans to reveal more in the coming months. Representatives for Spotify were unable to confirm when the service was coming to the US when contacted by CNET.

Spotify’s main competitor Apple Music has yet to announce any AI-branded features for its music streaming service, beyond its usual algorithm and Replay. However, the company is expected to go all-in with machine learning with the release of iOS 18 later in the year.

    ftr-infographic-ai-playlist-1-768x384.png

If you’re currently in Blighty or Down Under, here’s how to create AI playlists:

    1. To find the feature, open the Spotify mobile app and select Your Library in the bottom-right corner.
    2. Next, tap the + button at the top-right corner of the app and select AI Playlist.
    3. The app offers a number of preselected prompts, or you can type your own. The company says that “non-music-related prompts, like current events or specific brands” won’t work, and neither will offensive language.
    4. Spotify will offer suggested tracks and you can manage them as you would a regular playlist. You can also refine the playlist by giving the AI Playlist extra prompts such as “more pop” or “less upbeat.”

Lastly, tap Create, and the playlist will be saved in Your Library.

Anker’s earbuds boast a four-point noise-masking system with ear wings and twin-seal ear tips that help ensure you get the perfect seal to keep out those annoying noises. Everyday Wordle tips

I’ve written a lot about Wordle — from covering its 1,000th word to my list of the best starter words to a helpful two-step strategy to news about controversial word changes. I’ve even rounded up what I learned playing the hit online word puzzle for a full year. So if you’re rethinking your need for the actual answer, you might try tips from one of those stories.

Still need a starter word? One person told me they just look around and choose a five-letter object that they’ve spotted to use as their starter word — such as COUCH or CHAIR. I tend to stick to starter words that have the most popular letters used in English words. I like TRAIN as a starter, though I have a friend who uses TRAIL. I’ve read that people use the financial term ROATE, but I like to use words I actually know.

    What is Wordle?

If you read this far, you know how to play. You have six chances to guess a five-letter word, and the game gives you feedback as to whether the letters you’ve guessed are in the puzzle or not, and if they’re in the same spot where you guessed they are. The New York Times bought the game from creator Josh Wardle for seven figures in 2022. Wardle famously created the game for his partner, and let her narrow down the 12,000 five-letter words in the English language to just 2,500, creating the database of answers. It was convenient, too, that he has a name that plays off “word.”

A Times spokesperson told me it lists the very first Wordle as appearing on June 19, 2021, and the paper celebrated the game’s 1000th word on March 15. Spoiler: That 1000th word was ERUPT. As in, “Dad will erupt if the Wordle is so tough he loses his streak.”

There are other fun games in the Times Games stable. My latest addiction is Connections, which I think is trickier than Wordle. This is the game where you look at a grid of 16 words and try to put them into four groups of related words. Sometimes the relationships between the words are pretty out there — like the time when it was four words that all began with rock bands, such as “Rushmore” and “journeyman.” (Connections got a little sassy on April Fools’ Day with an all-emoji puzzle. Some gamers did NOT find that funny.)

Spelling Bee is a popular Times game too. And there’s a new game that’s still in beta, Strands, which I’m trying to master.
