  • You Can Still Save $50 on the Meta Quest 2 After Cyber Monday

You Can Still Save $50 on the Meta Quest 2 After Cyber Monday

With VR becoming such a big thing these days, a lot of companies are aiming for standalone headsets that don’t require you to have a fancy, high-end PC. That means that they are much more affordable, and probably the best pick right now is the Meta Quest 2. While the Meta Quest 3 has since hit shelves, its library isn’t that big and it’s a lot more expensive than the Quest 2, which is why the older version still holds the top spot on our list of the best VR headsets. Luckily, it also has a great post-Cyber Monday deal on it from Amazon, knocking $50 off the price and bringing it down to $250 from $300. The $50 discount applies to both the 128GB version and the 256GB version, so you can go whichever capacity suits you best.

While the Meta Quest 3 has newer hardware, the software experience still hasn’t caught up, according to CNET expert Scott Stein. Therefore, the Quest 2 is still the right VR headset to pick up if you’re looking for an affordable, self-contained unit. It can perform a lot of similar productivity functions to the upgraded model, such as pairing with a keyboard, getting phone notifications, holding meetings, and so on and costs half as much.

That said, the AR cameras on the Quest 2 are only black and white, so it doesn’t have as good of an overall AR experience as the Quest 3. Under the hood, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chip which gives you enough power to use the Quest 2 on its own, although you can connect it to your PC to gain an extra bit of processing power if you want or need it. What really makes the Quest 2 such a standout, though, is the game support, of which there are an absolute ton, and what makes the Quest 2 a more enticing buy than the Quest 3.

Of course, if you aren’t convinced and would still like to go with the newest Meta headset, you can check out these Quest 3 deals, or the wider Amazon Cyber Monday sale for some potential alternatives.

  • Our Top TV Pick of 2023 Is Discounted by Up to $900 for Cyber Monday

Our Top TV Pick of 2023 Is Discounted by Up to $900 for Cyber Monday

If you’re in the market for a new TV, Cyber Monday is certainly one of the best times of the year to buy one. But there are almost too many choices, and Cyber Monday TV deals are already cropping up everywhere. If you’re struggling with which one to go for, you’ll be happy to know our favorite TV on the market in 2023 is seeing huge savings at Amazon — making your decision much easier. Our TV experts have pegged the TCL QM8 as the best TV overall thanks to its excellent image quality, brightness and contrast. Bonus: Several sizes are eligible for hundreds in savings.

Amazon’s prices start at just $900, and while the product page doesn’t make the discount clear, this is the lowest this 65-inch TV has ever gone. Until the last couple of months, it rarely deviated from its $1,300 retail price. If you’d like a bigger screen, three larger variants are also discounted: the 75-inch for $1,398, the 85-inch for $2,000 and the 98-inch for $5,998. The 75-inch model is a particularly appealing deal, not just because it’s our favorite TV in this size class, but because it’s seeing the biggest savings at over $900 off.

The TCL QM8 implements mini-LED technology, which is similar to traditional LEDs, except it uses millions of tiny LEDs that can be controlled more granularly. That gives the panel a better overall brightness and contrast ratio while keeping costs down compared with an OLED panel. The image fidelity is also better thanks to the HDR tech the TCL QM8 supports, including HDR10, HDR10 Plus and HLG. If you’re unfamiliar with that last one, HLG is an HDR standard used by some broadcasters, especially in sports, so if you love keeping up with your favorite team, you’ll be able to see games in HDR — a nifty feature.

Another thing that makes the TCL QM8 an excellent TV for action-packed content is the 120Hz base refresh rate. More frames mean a smoother overall experience, and unlike motion-smoothing technology, a high base refresh rate doesn’t give a strange feel that puts off some viewers. The higher base refresh rate also makes this an excellent TV if you’re gaming on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X or a high-end gaming PC.

As for the smart TV platform, the TCL QM8 uses Google TV, which is excellent if you’re in the Google ecosystem, although you can change that by grabbing a streaming device from another brand. And if you think the TCL QM8 is still a bit too pricey, there are some other, more budget-friendly Cyber Monday TV deals you can check out.

  • This $8 Cyber Monday Card Game Was a Highlight of Our Family Vacation

This $8 Cyber Monday Card Game Was a Highlight of Our Family Vacation

There are a ton of great Cyber Monday deals on big-ticket items like laptops or TVs that can save you hundreds of dollars, but if you’re looking to stock up on family laughs, it’s the little deals that often make the biggest impact. For my family, that was the case with Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, an unassuming card game packed with potential hilarity.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza might be the most fun I’ve had with a card game since forever, and it made our recent vacation very memorable. And now you can pick it up for yourself at a special $8 price.

We took Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza to the poolside in Crete and everyone must have thought we had enjoyed the all-inclusive drinks a little too much. It’s impossible to play this game without shouting, laughing and sometimes even crying — again, maybe that was just me — at how much fun it can be. And the best part? It’s just so simple.

Each player puts down a card and says “Taco,” “Cat,” “Goat,” “Cheese” and “Pizza” in order. If the word matches the card, the last person to slap their hand down has to pick up all the cards — with some special cards and actions I won’t spoil for you. The person who run out of cards first wins. Simple, right? And yes, dear reader, I always finished with the most. I do indeed suck at this game.

But you know what? It doesn’t matter, because it’s so fun that I don’t care. I sincerely hope that you’re better at Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza than I am but, frankly, you won’t care if you aren’t, either.

  • Amazon Just Beat the Black Friday Sony WH-1000XM4 Price By a Healthy Amount

Amazon Just Beat the Black Friday Sony WH-1000XM4 Price By a Healthy Amount

Picking up a new pair of wireless headphones can be an expensive business, but Cyber Monday is here to help lighten the load. The Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones are generally accepted to be among the best around, and right now is the perfect time to pick a pair up with Amazon offering a deal that saves $20 more than the previous Black Friday best price.

This all means that ordering a new pair of Sony WH-1000XM4 today will cost you just $228, a huge saving of $120 off the original price. And what’s more, you get the chance to pick from three different colors including the lovely blue that you should absolutely choose over the white and black.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones pack a 30-hour battery life with support for quick charging that turns just 10 minutes of charge time into five hours of music playback. Controlling the headphones is a cinch thanks to touch-sensitive controls on the earcup, and there’s even support for activating a voice assistant as well. Answering phone calls and all the usual standard features are of course present as you might expect.

What makes the Sony WH-1000XM4 stand above the rest is of course that best-in-class active noise canceling technology, making these a great option for anyone who needs to be able to tune out noise on an airplane, bus, or even a busy office. And all while saving a ton of money, too.

Be sure to check out our collection of the best Amazon Cyber Monday deals if a new pair of headphones isn’t for you, but be quick — the Cyber Monday fun ends tonight and these deals could well do the same.

  • How I Feel One Year After Ditching My Android for an iPhone

It’s been a year since I abandoned my decade-long relationship with the Samsung Galaxy and switched to the iPhone 14 Pro, and I’m happy to report I don’t regret a thing.

I loved my Galaxy devices and was always a proud Android user, but a series of factors — namely, my eagerness to try Apple’s hardware and software, as well as a desire to no longer be bullied for green texts (which is Apple’s fault) — enticed me to switch teams. It’s been smooth sailing since then, and I’ll be bold enough to say I don’t see myself ever going back.

One of the main reasons is my love for iMessage. It’s been surprisingly seamless to stay in touch with friends (due in no small part to the fact that they actually want to include me in group texts now without giving me crap about it), and the messaging experience is just more enjoyable with reactions and hi-res images and videos.

I had and loved RCS messaging on my Galaxy, which, like iMessage, shows typing indicators and read receipts, supports sending high-quality media and lets you react to messages. But few of my friends had phones that supported RCS messaging, or if they did, they just never cared to enable it. And until very recently, Apple resisted pressure to adopt RCS on iPhones, but shockingly reversed course in mid-November. That means that while I had an Android, I could hardly reap the benefits of RCS, while I apparently made my (dramatic) iPhone-using friends’ lives more difficult.

I’ve also become a sucker for AirDrop. Because I shoot a lot of videos on my phone for work as well as my personal social media accounts, it’s been a game changer to be able to instantly share videos between my iPhone and MacBook.

Sharing pictures and videos after a hangout is painless, too. Yes, third-party apps like WhatsApp and Google Drive exist, but WhatsApp still reduces video quality, and using Google Drive is relatively slow and feels like actual work. So, AirDrop is the clear winner here.

Speaking of videos, the quality on my iPhone is unmatched; regular shots as well as Cinematic mode videos are crisp and clear, and better supported by apps like TikTok. While I’ve always admired how vibrant images on the Galaxy look, and admittedly think some iPhone photos look too dark and shadow-y, that video quality has me hooked.

An iPhone feature that took me by surprise when it won me over is MagSafe. I initially didn’t understand the appeal of this: Why charge using MagSafe if it takes two seconds to plug in a cable? But little did I know that it was less about the charging, and more about the accessories. I’ve become reliant on my MagSafe portable charger, which is much easier to carry around than my massive power brick, as well as my MagSafe wallet. Safe to say (see what I did there?), I get it now.

There is one feature I admittedly still miss, even one year into ditching my Android: Object Eraser. This is a Galaxy feature that lets you remove any person or object from your photos by drawing a line around what you want to get rid of, then tapping a button to make them disappear. This was great for when I had an almost perfect image, but someone was photobombing or there was something distracting in the way.

The Google Pixel lineup has a similar feature called Magic Eraser, as well as a next-level tool called Magic Editor, which, in addition to removing anything from your photo, lets you move people and objects around and change the background. It’s cool and creepy all at once.

Sadly, Apple still doesn’t have a similar AI-based editing feature built into Photos. If I wanted to remove anything from an image, I’d need to go into Photoshop, and Lord knows I’m not doing that. So I’d love for that capability to be added in a future software update.

Check out the video above for more iPhone features I can’t live without (and to see whether I now condone bullying people for having green texts).

  • This Cyber Monday Deal Lets You Snag Windows 11 Pro for Just $23

This Cyber Monday Deal Lets You Snag Windows 11 Pro for Just $23

If you’re running an older version of Windows and want to upgrade to something newer or are building a new PC, then you’ll likely want to aim for Windows 11. Unfortunately, it’s a very expensive OS, and if you grab it from Microsft, you’re going to be putting down a considerable $200 to get it. Luckily, there’s an excellent Cyber Monday deal from StackSocial that drops the Windows 11 Pro license down to just $23. That’s a low price for a lifetime license, so definitely grab it while the deal lasts.

This is a great price, but it’s important to note that not every computer out there is able to run Windows 11, so before you buy it, you’re going to want to ensure that your computer will meet the requirements for the operating system. Additionally, the listing says that if you have a PC that’s already running Windows 10, and Windows Update doesn’t let you install the free Windows 11 upgrade, your computer won’t be compatible with this version either.

The activation key that’s provided following your purchase can be used to install and activate Windows 11 Pro on one computer. To be clear, purchases like this are generally intended for advanced users — those who are building a new computer or who want to dual-boot an existing computer with a second OS. If you’re doing that, you will need a secondary PC to access and download the files, so be sure you can access everything from another computer in your home or you have a friend’s machine that you can use temporarily. You’ll also want to have a USB thumb drive on hand to transfer the file, but with plenty of Amazon Cyber Monday deals going on right now you won’t have a problem finding an affordable one.

  • Cyber Monday Drops the Apple Pencil 2 to a New All-Time Low (Save $49)

Cyber Monday Drops the Apple Pencil 2 to a New All-Time Low (Save $49)

While a lot of Black Friday deals just continue right through Cyber Monday these days, there’s a genuinely new price drop on the Apple Pencil 2 over at Amazon today. The second-gen Apple stylus is down to a new all-time low price of $80 there right now. That’s $49 off its retail price and $9 lower than we’ve seen it offered the last few days.

That 38% saving is available to anyone who wants it, with no discount codes or on-screen coupons, nor do you have to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. But you do need to act soon — there’s no indication of when this deal is going to end, which means it could sell out without warning.

The Apple Pencil is a great way to take notes and get creative when using an iPad, and the second-gen model is the best of the bunch with support for advanced features like tapping to change tools and more. It also magnetically connects to the side of compatible iPads to wirelessly charge and pair, ensuring that it’s always charged and ready to go when inspiration strikes. The second-gen Apple Pencil works with the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-gen models); iPad Pro 11-inch (first-, second-, third- and fourth-gen models); iPad Air (fourth- and fifth-gen models); and the sixth-gen iPad Mini.

With Amazon’s Cyber Monday sale well underway, there are plenty of discounts across other Apple products this year. If you haven’t yet taken the plunge on a new iPad, be sure to check out our roundup of the best Cyber Monday iPad deals you can buy.
