Nobody Wants Phone Calls From Twitter. Here’s How to Turn Them Off

X, formerly known as Twitter, has just launched audio and video calls for all users. Because why not.

Audio and video calling, which you’ll find on plenty of other popular social media services, including Instagram and Facebook, has been around on X as well, but it was exclusively for those who paid for a premium subscription. Now calls are available to everyone, whether you pay or not.

And while there’s interest in using X for making calls, not everyone wants audio and video calling.

As of right now, audio and video calling is slowly rolling out to nonpremium X users, but if it is available for you to use already, you should know that it’s on by default, which means anyone you follow could potentially call you up. At any time. If that’s a worry for you, you need to know how to disable the feature.

I’ll show you how to easily turn off audio and video calls on X, so that no one can call you through the social media platform. Here’s what you need to know. For more, here are five reasons you should unplug from social media and everything you need to know to create better TikTok videos. And if you’re tired of the service, here’s how you can delete your X account for good.

How to disable audio and video calling on X

If audio and video calling is available on your X account, you can easily disable the feature from your settings. In the X app, go to your direct messages and then hit the gear icon on the top-right, which will take you to settings for your messages. Now toggle off Enable audio and video calling to prevent anyone from calling you.

    twitter audio calls toggle

If for some reason you do want to audio and video calling enabled but want it to be more restrictive, you can keep Enable audio and video calling toggled on, uncheck the box for People you follow and instead check the box for People in your address book, so that only people you know IRL can call you on X.

For more, here’s how to untag yourself from any X conversation.

    Pros

    • Excellent sound
    • Upgraded Qualcomm chipset
    • Slightly improved battery life and noise canceling
    • Small upgrades to feature set
    • Added dust resistance

    Cons

    • No external design changes
    • Pricey

Products like the Momentum True Wireless 4 are hard to review. While these buds are the successor to the highly rated Momentum True Wireless 3, now nearly two years old, they’re more of an incremental update rather than a full-fledged upgrade.

The updated components include a new Qualcomm chipset, an overhauled antenna design and some other tweaks that improve the buds’ overall performance and feature set, making an already very good set of earbuds even better. However, with no changes to the external design, it’s tricky to determine if Sennheiser has done enough with these flagship noise-canceling wireless earbuds to keep pace with similarly priced options from Apple, Sony and Bose.

    Momentum True Wireless 4’s design

As I said, the earbuds’ external design hasn’t changed from their predecessor except for the color options: black graphite, copper graphite and white silver. The copper graphite color is totally new, and the previous model’s white model was all white.

While the fit of the Momentum True Wireless 3 wasn’t for everyone, I didn’t have any major issues with the design, and they fit my ears well. Sennheiser’s ear tips are among my favorites; I always get a tight seal with the large tips, and the buds come with two sizes of rubber fins to help get a secure fit. That said, the buds aren’t as compact as others and stick out of your ears a bit, particularly if you have small ears. Each bud weighs 6.2 grams. By comparison, the AirPods Pro 2 weigh 5.3 grams.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 feature better noise canceling

Again, the design hasn’t really changed from the last-gen model. There are still customizable touch controls that are responsive and work well, and ear-detection sensors that pause what’s playing when you take a bud out of your ear and resume playback when you put it back in. The microphones are located in the same spots — three in each bud — but they’ve been upgraded (they apparently have a lower noise floor). The charging cases are identical, with USB-C and wireless charging on board. A quick charge feature gives you about an hour of battery life from an 8-minute charge.

The one noteworthy design change is that these have an IP54 rating, which means they are splashproof and dust-resistant while the Momentum True Wireless 3 were only IPX4 splashproof. Sennheiser also tweaked its eartips, adding some mesh to prevent any ear wax and other detritus from getting into the buds’ nozzles.

New Qualcomm chipset, overhauled antenna design

For better or worse, the big changes are all on the inside, mainly an upgraded Qualcomm 5-series chipset and improved battery performance. A single charge is good for up to 7.5 hours of playback at moderate volume levels (7 hours with noise canceling on), which is 30 minutes more than the Momentum True Wireless 3. There’s also a setting in Sennheiser’s Smart Control app for iOS and Android that, when activated, limits the battery charge to 80% to help maintain battery health.

The antenna design was improved “for exceptional signal continuity while on the go,” Sennheiser says. In other words, you should get fewer audio hiccups, whether your phone is in your left or right pocket. I didn’t encounter any dropouts during my two days of using the buds while walking around the streets of New York, so it seems the Bluetooth connection is reliably better.

The Qualcomm chip has a few features built into it, like a low-latency gaming mode and LE Audio and Auracast support. With the latter two, you can share your audio with others or tap into Auracast broadcast audio streams in public spaces, such as airports and gyms. LE Audio and Auracast support will be added via a firmware update later this year, Sennheiser says. However, multipoint Bluetooth pairing, the feature that allows you to pair the buds to two devices simultaneously, is active and worked OK in my limited testing (a compatibility issue with Windows 11 was fixed with a firmware upgrade just as I was finishing up this review).

    sennheiser-momentum-true-wireless-4-wearing-them

When using the buds with certain smartphones and other devices that are Snapdragon Audio certified, Sennheiser says you’ll be able to take advantage of Qualcomm’s AptX Adaptive and Lossless audio codecs. That’s nice, but frankly, the whole AptX thing is confusing. Some Android devices support AptX HD, though not AptX Adaptive or AptX Lossless, and I have a hard time telling the difference between them. It’s also confusing that AptX Adaptive is specced to deliver up to 24bit/96kHz high-resolution audio while AptX Lossless is 16bit/44kHz, true CD-quality audio. Of course, you’ll need to own high-resolution audio files or use a streaming service like Qobuz, Tidal or Amazon Music that offers high-resolution audio files.

I tested the buds with an iPhone 14 Pro, Google Pixel 7 Plus and an Asus ROG 6 smartphone that’s Snapdragon Audio-enabled. The iPhone 14 Pro uses the AAC audio codec, and truth be told, it was really hard to tell the difference in sound quality when switching between the various devices and codecs while listening to the same tracks in Qobuz. In theory, your music should sound a tad more detailed and have a touch more depth to it when using AptX Adaptive Or AptX Lossless, but I found the nuances to be very slight, and I still don’t know for sure if I was listening to AptX Lossless. You also have to reset the buds when you switch from standard audio to “high-resolution” and “lossless” in Sennheiser’s Smart Control app for iOS and Android.

While some Android users will appreciate the AptX support, I’m a bit of a skeptic. I suppose I prefer Sony’s LDAC audio codec simply because there’s only one flavor of it, so you know that’s what you’re getting, and more Android phones to support it.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 are a modest upgrade from their predecessor
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 are a modest upgrade from their predecessor

Overall, I can’t say I noticed a real upgrade to the sound quality, which was already excellent in the Momentum True Wireless 3 and also had support for the same audio codecs except for LC3, which is part of the LE Audio protocol. Aside from those extra features (LE Audio, Auracast), the new Qualcomm chip probably has more of an impact on noise canceling and voice calling performance (AI voice pickup) than sound quality.

    Sound quality

The Momentum True Wireless earbuds have the same 7mm drivers as the previous model with Sennheiser’s TrueResponse transducer system, and the buds deliver well-balanced sound with good detail and well-defined bass. A lot of the top earbuds have similar sonic characteristics, but I’ve always felt the Momentum True Wireless line and Sennheiser’s signature sounds are a tad more pure and accurate. It’s a bit of cliche to say the music comes across more as the artist intended it to be heard, but I appreciate when earbuds and headphones sound more natural, and there’s a nice intimacy to the vocals (midrange) in particular and just enough warmth to the bass.

Sennheiser does offer lots of EQ options to tweak the sound, including an equalizer with the option for custom presets and a sound personalization mode that walks you through creating a personal sound profile to save to your Sennheiser account. You can also create “sound zones” based on your location. For example, when you come home or enter your gym, certain settings (custom EQ, noise canceling) will automatically kick on.

    sennheiser-momentum-4-true-wireless-white
    sennheiser-momentum-4-true-wireless-white

Listening to a handful tracks, including The Strokes’ The Adults Are Talking, The Bleachers’ Don’t Take the Money, Bjork’s Hollow, Orbital’s Dirty Rat, Spoon’s Knock Knock Knock and Anna B Savage’s Since We Broke Up, I compared these to the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds. The Sonys are warmer, with more bass and a little fuller sound. The Sennheisers offer better clarity, and, as I said, more accurate sound. I preferred the Sennheisers, but those who listen to more bass-heavy music will likely prefer the Sonys.

I also put them up against the AirPods Pro 2 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds. For sound, the True Wireless Momentum 4 are an upgrade over the AirPods Pro 2 with better clarity and just a more enveloping, immersive sound (the soundstage is wider and more open). The Bose’s bass has a bit more kick to it, but vocals on the Sennheisers are a bit more forward and natural sounding. I’d say the Sennheisers have a slight edge over both the AirPods Pro 2 and QC Ultra Earbuds for sound and probably sound closest to the Technics AZ80, which were among my favorite earbuds of 2023.

Naturally, sound quality is dependent on how tight a seal you get with whatever noise-isolating eartips your using, so make sure you get a good fit or else sound quality — and bass performance in particular — will take a hit.

Noise canceling, voice calling and transparency

For me, these are the three areas where I hoped the Momentum True Wireless 4 would show the most improvement. I do think the noise canceling has noticeably improved, but the voice-calling performance and transparency modes show only slight improvements from what I can tell.

The new adaptive noise canceling on the Sennheiser earbuds is a little shy of what you get with the Sony WF-1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds but still quite respectable. With a tight seal, the buds managed to muffle a lot of ambient sound. There’s a touch of hiss, but it’s very faint.

With the transparency mode there’s an in-app slider to set how much of the outside world you want to hear — from low to high with the middle hitting full transparency. At the high level, things seem slightly amplified, and there is a touch of white noise. My preference is for a natural-sounding fixed transparency setting, but with the slider you can find a happy middle setting that gets you close (it still wasn’t quite as good as the AirPods Pro 2’s, though).

Equipped with those upgraded microphones and something called AI Voice Pickup, I expected voice-calling performance to be a little better. The AI feature is supposed to help the buds pick up your voice better while simultaneously reducing background noise. I made a few calls from the noisy streets of New York with a bit of wind thrown into the mix (a real torture test), and callers said the AirPods Pro 2 did a better job reducing background noise than these Sennheisers. My voice sounded slightly clearer on the Sennheisers (I apparently sounded like I was in a tunnel when using the AirPods Pro 2), but people said they preferred talking to me when I was using the AirPods Pro 2 because they could hear me better overall.

While I tested the buds with a few different Android phones for music listening, I tested voice calling with an iPhone 14 Pro on the Verizon network. I don’t know whether voice-calling performance would have been any different with a Snapdragon Audio-enabled phone, but the type of phone you use shouldn’t matter.

Hopefully, Sennheiser can tweak the noise reduction and voice pickup algorithms and improve voice-calling performance with a firmware upgrade. While it’s decent enough now, I expected a little more from $300 earbuds, particularly because Sennheiser is known for its excellent microphones.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 final thoughts

Whenever a new pair of Momentum True Wireless earbuds drops, I always find myself saying, “Wow, these sound good.” Sound quality has always been the MTW’s biggest strength, and that remains the case with the fourth-gen version.

There’s been some modest improvements in other areas, particularly with the noise-canceling performance and the reliable, hiccup-free Bluetooth connection I had with my phone. At the same time, the voice-calling performance could be better, and I’m a little disappointed that these aren’t even more of an upgrade over their predecessor.

Still, the Momentum True Wireless 4 are excellent earbuds that I have no problem recommending. But as you can probably sense, I was hoping for just a little more. Perhaps we’ll get that down the road with a firmware upgrade or two. Or maybe we’ll just have to wait for the Momentum True Wireless 5.

    Safari’s Hidden Picture-in-Picture Mode Is a Mac Game-Changer

Your Mac computer has many hidden multitasking tools built-in. Hot corners make it easy to quickly run system actions with your mouse, while keyboard shortcuts do the same, but with your keyboard, of course. Split screen lets you use multiple apps at once and widgets let you keep an eye on weather, sports scores and more on your home screen.

There are just so many productivity features to discover on MacOS, and there’s one in Safari you really need to know about.

Picture-in-Picture mode on Mac allows you to shrink any video you’re watching in Safari, whether it’s on YouTube or Twitch, and create a floating window you can move around your screen. That way, you can visit other websites and use other applications, while you continue to watch.

There are several ways to enable PiP, which I’ll show you below.

PiP is one of the more underrated features on the Mac. Want to learn more about others? Check out these Command keyboard shortcuts on MacOS and the hidden Hello screensaver. You should also read about 10 Mac tips and tricks you probably didn’t know about.

Safari’s PiP button is hidden in the address bar

If a video is playing in Safari, go to the address bar at the top of the window, right-click the blue audio button to the right of the website URL in the address bar and click Enter Picture in Picture. The video will then automatically move to a floating window.

Enter Picture in Picture Setting in Safari

The floating window playing the video will appear above all other open applications, including Safari, and will snap into any of the four corners of your desktop. You can adjust the size by hovering the mouse over the window’s borders and corners and then clicking and dragging to make it bigger or smaller.

The window also has two buttons: One to pause/play the video and the other to snap the floating window back into the web browser. You can also just close the floating window with the X button on the top left.

Floating window playing video in Safari

There are two other ways to enable Picture in Picture on MacOS

If you don’t see the blue audio button in the address bar or have multiple videos playing in Safari, there are two other ways to use Picture in Picture.

The first is by clicking the PiP button in the video’s playback controls. Not every video player will have the PiP button, so you’re limited in use. The PiP button appears as two rectangles with an arrow pointing from one to the other, but you can also just hover your mouse over the various buttons to find the Open Picture in Picture mode option.

    PiP button in YouTube

If you don’t see a PiP button, you can right-click the video and see if you get an Enter Picture in Picture option. On YouTube, you have to right-click twice to get the correct menu, but you may only need to right-click once on other websites to find the PiP setting.

F1 Is Here: How to Watch and Stream the Bahrain GP 2024

Formula 1 is back for the inaugural race of the 2024 season. And, while the season has yet to officially start, the drama is already ramping up. There have been driver lineup switches, most notablyMercedes’ Lewis Hamilton making the jump to Ferrari for 2025, after what will be an 11-year tenure on the team.

Last season, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen ran away with the Constructors’ and Drivers’ championships, with Red Bull winning by a massive margin of 451 points and Verstappen winning by a margin of 290 points. After preseason testing, where teams put their 2024 contenders on the track for the very first times, all eyes will be on the championship winning team to see if they make a return to the podium this year.

Red Bull will have a bit of extra attention for another reason this weekend. Earlier this month, allegations of inappropriate conduct with one of Red Bull’s employees were made against team principal Christian Horner. He denied the allegations, and this week was cleared by an internal investigation. Other leaders in the sport, including Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, have questioned the results of the investigations.

Fans of the sport will be watching out for something called the “Bahrain Curse,” which is the idea that whichever team wins the first race of the season will be destined to come in second place in the Constructors’ championship. (Granted, Red Bull proved this wrong in 2023.) After teams debuted their cars on track for the first time last weekend, this weekend’s race will be the first true test of each team’s 2024 model.

The Bahrain Grand Prix follows the traditional race weekend format, with three practice sessions across Thursday and Friday, a Friday qualifier and Saturday race. It’s important to note that both the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, not the usual Sunday, in deference to the holy month of Ramadan.

The main race, which takes place on Saturday, March 2 at 9:55 a.m ET (6:55 a.m PT) will be held at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir. The race will air on ESPN.

The entire race weekend, including practice sessions and qualifying, will be shown in the US on ESPN’s family of TV and streaming networks. Those looking to follow all of it will need access to the ABC and ESPN news channels on cable or live TV streaming services, or the ESPN Plus streaming service. We’ve broken down everything you need to know to stream today’s race, and all the other F1 races this season.

Best option for streaming in the US

How to watch F1 online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the race locally, you may need a different way to watch — that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on race day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Looking for other options? Be sure to check out some of the other great VPN deals taking place right now.

Livestream F1 racing in the UK

F1 in the UK is shown on Sky Sports and Channel 4 — Sky Sports airs the races, practice rounds and qualifying, while free-to-air Channel 4 offers highlights broadcast after the day’s action takes place. If you already have Sky Sports as part of your TV package, you can stream the race via its app, but cord-cutters can watch Sky TV with unlimited Sky Sports on a Now TV membership.

Other options for streaming in the US without cable

Beyond ESPN Plus, numerous live TV streaming services carry channels with F1. Race weekends normally start on Friday with multiple practice runs and continue on Saturday with qualifying. The races themselves take place Sunday. ESPN typically airs practices and qualifying on a mix of ESPN 2 and ESPNews, while the races tend to air on ESPN. F1 events in North America often land on ABC.

Here are some of the best ways to catch the entire race weekend without cable.

  • How to Stream Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Movie on Disney Plus

How to Stream Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Movie on Disney Plus

Taylor swift performing with her dancers at her eras tour

Disney Plus is entering its Swiftie era. The streamer will be the exclusive home of the newest version of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour concert film beginning on March 15.

Disney Plus is already home to another Taylor Swift exclusive, “Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions,” a series that chronicles the making of her 2020 album “Folklore.” Swift’s other documentaries and concert films have been available sporadically on various streaming services, including Netflix and Prime Video.

The first version of The Eras Tour movie came out in theatres, where it was the highest-grossing concert film, as reported by Variety. Then, it was available for rent on demand. Disney Plus’s version of the film promises new performances — and says goodbye to some fan favorites.

Are you ready for it? If not, we’ve got you covered. Here’s how to watch The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), and why a VPN may be a useful tool for streaming.

Release time for the Eras Tour film in the US and abroad

The film will land on Disney Plus on Friday, March 15 at 3 a.m. ET/12 p.m. PT in all territories except the Republic of Türkiye, where it will be released on April 3.

Pricing for Disney Plus starts at $8 per month in the US, but if you live in Canada, the platform costs $12CAD a month. UK fans can get the service for either 5 with ads, or 8 a month without ads. You can subscribe for a year and save 16%. In Australia, fans get Disney Plus for AU$14 per month.

What’s new in the Disney Plus version of the film

Disney Plus’ version of the flick will feature Swift’s performance of Cardigan, which was previously cut from the theatrical release of the movie, and four additional acoustic songs, although it’s not clear yet what those songs might be. Swift recorded six acoustic songs during filming in August, and the performances of Our Song and You’re on Your Own, Kid made both the theatrical and on-demand rental versions of the film. That means acoustic performances of I Can See You, Maroon, You Are in Love and Death by a Thousand Cuts could be featured in the newest version of the film.

Songs excluded from the Disney Plus cut of the movie include Long Live, The Archer, Wildest Dreams and No Body, No Crime.

How to stream the film using a VPN

Perhaps you’re traveling abroad and want to stream The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) while away from home. With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the movie from anywhere in the world. There are other good reasons to use a VPN for streaming, too.

A VPN is the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds by encrypting your traffic. Using a VPN is also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins. Streaming TV can be a bit smoother with a reliable, quality VPN that’s passed our tests and security standards.

You can use a VPN to stream content legally as long as VPNs are legal in your country and you have a valid subscription to the streaming service you’re using. The US and Canada are among the countries where VPNs are legal, but we advise against streaming or downloading content on illegal torrent sites. We recommend ExpressVPN, but you may opt for another provider from our best list such as Surfshark or NordVPN.

Follow the VPN provider’s instructions for installation and choose a country where The Eras Tour movie is streaming on Disney Plus. Before you open the streaming app, make sure you’re connected to your VPN using your selected region. If you want to stream The Eras Tour film on more than one device, you may need to configure each one to ensure you are signed in. Go to settings and check your network connections to verify you’re logged in and connected to your VPN account. Now you’re ready to open Disney Plus to stream.

If you run into issues with streaming, first make sure your VPN is up and running on its encrypted IP address. Double-check that you’ve followed installation instructions correctly and you’ve picked the right geographical area for viewing. If you still encounter connection problems, you may need to reboot your device. Close all apps and windows, restart your device and connect to your VPN first. Note that some streaming services have restrictions on VPN access.

Correction, Feb. 9: An earlier version of this story misstated the number of Taylor Swift’s studio albums. The Tortured Poets Department, set for release in April, will be her 11th studio album.

Google’s latest flagship phone, the Pixel 8, made its debut in October. It starts at $699 ( 699, AU$1,199), which is $100 more than last year’s Pixel 7 and the Pixel 6 before. (Note that the Pixel 7 is down to $430 for Black Friday if you’re looking to save money.)

The Pixel 8 lineup is intended for people who are looking to upgrade to a flagship Android phone that takes excellent photos, which has been Google’s signature focus. The Pixel 8 features a 50-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, which are the same as those in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6. This year, there is a higher-res 10-megapixel selfie camera.

Arguably the biggest Pixel 8 improvement however, has come by way of its software, which is one of the key attractions of a Pixel phone. The Pixel 8 series offers seven years of support for Android OS and security upgrades, forcing rival Samsung to extend its coverage for its new Galaxy S24 lineup to stay competitive. It also represents a significant upgrade over the Pixel 7 series, which Google pledged to support with five years of security patches and three years of major Android updates. The Pixel 6 has three years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches promised, showing Google’s increasing support over the years.

The design, with its signature camera bar running across the chassis, is largely identical save for a slightly larger screen and a slightly lower weight, among other minor changes in appearance. After Google overhauled its phone lineup with the Pixel 6 in 2021, the Pixel 8 offers an iterative upgrade from the Pixel 7, as opposed to the radical changes of three years ago.

Beyond its software updates, the Pixel 8 comes with new features, namely Night Sight for video, Audio Magic Eraser, a powerful tool for removing background noise from videos, and Best Take, a photo editing tool that alters the expression on someone’s face in a group picture.

Some of these features may come to older Pixel phones in time, perhaps the ones running on Tensor chipsets, but they’re available on the newest Pixel phone first.

The Pixel 8 runs on Google’s years-in-the-making Tensor chip once again, but this year it’s the next-gen version known as the Tensor 3, but we won’t know how much it’s improved on the Tensor 2 (in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7A) and Tensor 1 (in the Pixel 6) until we have time to test it. The new phone’s 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage are unchanged from previous Pixels, though its 4,575 mAh battery sits between the capacities for the Pixel 7 (4,355 mAh) and Pixel 6 (4,614 mAh).

There’s also support for a higher refresh rate of 120Hz on the display from the Pixel 7’s 90Hz maximum, which should allow for smoother scrolling and navigation. Pixel 8 also has a higher charging speed of 13 watts versus 5 watts in older Pixel phones for Qi-compatible devices, though the wired charging remains at the same 30W as in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6.

  • Best M3 Mac Deals: Save Up to $249 Off Apple’s Latest Laptops and Desktops

Best M3 Mac Deals: Save Up to $249 Off Apple’s Latest Laptops and Desktops

Apple’s M3 chips power some of the best laptops and best desktops Apple has ever made. The refreshed 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, as well as the iMac desktop, all benefit from Apple’s upgraded chips and they have the improved performance to prove it. That makes them some of the most advanced computers on the market right now. But it also means they don’t come cheap — but don’t worry, we’ve found the best deals out there to help you get your hands on a new M3 Mac for less.

Two years after Apple last updated its sleek 24-inch all-in-one iMac desktop, the new model comes equipped with the basic M3 chip. There’s also a newly updated 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro for anyone who likes to take their Mac on the go. The smaller 14-inch model can be equipped with the standard M3, the step-up M3 Pro or the high-end M3 Max processor, while the larger 16-inch Pro is available only with the M3 Pro or Max.

    Apple's M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max processors against a black background.

    M3 MacBook Pro

The 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro starts at $1,599, while the 16-inch model starts at $2,499. Both models feature a stunning Liquid Retina XDR display and a built-in HDMI port and SD card reader, making them versatile machines for creatives and professionals. They’re available directly from Apple, as well as Amazon, Best Buy and B&H Photo. Deals will be hard to come by initially, however.

It’s worth noting that Apple has a trade-in program that can knock hundreds off the starting price of a new Mac in exchange for your old computer, and you’ll get 3% cash back when you make the purchase using your Apple card. For purchases this big, that ends up being a decent chunk of change.

    M3 24-inch iMac

Apple’s all-in-one iMac desktop was last updated in 2021, so the new M3 model is a pretty serious upgrade. It’s available only with the basic M3 chip but features a stunning 24-inch 4.5K Retina display. All configurations come with the wireless Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse, so you’ve got everything you need to get set up right away.

Like the new M3 MacBook Pro laptops, this desktop is available at Apple, Amazon, Best Buy and B&H Photo. Apple is also offering discounts with an eligible trade-in, and you’ll get 3% cash back when you make the purchase using your Apple Card.

These are the latest and greatest Macs that Apple has to offer, but we’re sure to see some bigger discounts on older models. Check out our roundup of the best MacBook deals for serious savings on Apple laptops.

  • Azio’s Retro Classic Keyboard Looks as Nice as It Is to Type On

Azio’s Retro Classic Keyboard Looks as Nice as It Is to Type On

The RC Prestige mechanical keyboard from Azio has a bit of a steampunk vibe. Its backlit half-height keycaps — rounded squares with brushed silver edges — float above the faceplate and look like old-fashioned typewriter keys. The ebony version I tested has a black-stained wood faceplate; an ivory version swaps wood for white leather. The aluminum frame matches the color of the keycap edges and is secured with visible screws around the top.

Despite the somewhat anachronistic design, the keyboard has a lot of the features you’d find on current mechanical keyboards: hot-swappable Gateron G Pro 3.0 mechanical switches, double-shot keycaps, wired or Bluetooth modes (for up to three devices), MacOS, Windows, iOS and Android support, and high-quality materials inside and out.

The Azio Retro Classic Prestige full-size mechanical keyboard.

The bottom case is plastic, but it doesn’t detract from the design. It certainly doesn’t make it lighter: it’s a hefty 3.5 pounds. The base has large circular feet with rubber on the bottoms so it won’t slide around. A twist of the cleverly designed back feet raises the rear of the keyboard for a more comfortable typing angle.

A close-up look at the rear foot of the Azio RC Prestige mechanical keyboard. The round foot can be rotated to raise and lower the typing angle.

The keyboard connects by Bluetooth or USB cable (a nice USB-C-to-USB-A braided cable was included); there’s no 2.4GHz wireless option. With Bluetooth, up to three devices can wirelessly connect to the keyboard. The keyboard will go to sleep to conserve battery life when not in use, and it does take a second or two for it to wake and reconnect — not uncommon but still frustrating.

The back of the Azio RC Prestige keyboard has a USB-C port for charging and a wired connection to a computer. There are also switches to change to using a Bluetooth connection and changing the OS support between Windows or MacOS.

Even though I tested an early production sample of the keyboard, the typing experience was wonderful. The keyboard Azio sent me had Gateron G Pro 3.0 Brown tactile mechanical switches, a good choice for typing. Azio also offers linear Red and clicky Blue Gateron G Pro switch options preinstalled. They’re hot-swappable too, so even if you don’t like your initial choice, you can change them later.

The double-shot keycaps are smooth and the shine-through legends are increasingly a rarity on non-gaming mechanical keyboards. The font Azio chose doesn’t look as nice as the rest of the keyboard; it’s not particularly clean or sharp, so some of the keys are difficult to read. The legends on the previous version of the RC Prestige are much nicer.

The Gateron G Pro switches are prelubed and move smoothly and quietly. The keyboard overall is fairly quiet and cushy, likely because of the internal structure and the use of Poron foam and a silicone damper. It sounds great too, with a pleasingly soft clack that shouldn’t disturb your coworkers too much. The Kickstarter page for the RC Prestige has a sound sample, but my keyboard has a deeper sound.

Close-up of the Gateron G Pro 3.0 switches in the Azio RC Prestige keyboard.

The Azio RC Prestige keyboard Kickstarter campaign is fully funded and the keyboard is currently in production. A fully assembled keyboard is a pledge of $169 plus shipping, which varies by country. The campaign ends on March 15 at 9 a.m. ET and keyboards are expected to ship in July. This is Azio’s fifth keyboard campaign, and the company has shipped every time. Its Tera 75 keyboard it crowdfunded last year, for example, is now available to purchase on its site. However, before you contribute to a campaign, read the policies of the crowdfunding site — in this case, Kickstarter — to find out your rights (and refund policies, or lack thereof) before and after a campaign ends.
