Gemini’s Call for Me Feature Could Notify Your Mom You’re Running Late

Google may be extending its ‘Call for Me’ AI capability beyond business calls, allowing users to send messages to friends and family.

According to Android Authority, an APK teardown revealed a “Gemini Calling” intro screen with examples such as ‘Call Mom and tell her I will be 15 minutes late’ and ‘Call John and ask if he is coming for dinner.’ A rumored Android update would automate personal phone calls using Gemini AI. Based on these examples, even with this expansion, Gemini would likely be limited to simple, text‑message‑style calls.

While Google’s AI probably won’t automate a full catch‑up call with relatives, it could deliver quick messages to people who prefer a phone call, often miss texts, or still rely on a landline. Android Authority also reported finding granular permissions for Gemini actions within individual apps, including what appear to be phone‑call permission settings.

These settings would let users choose which app capabilities Gemini can access, potentially offering an opt‑out for incoming automated calls from Gemini. However, as Android Authority notes, Google might never publicly release this expansion or the detailed Gemini app settings.
