McKinsey to Use AI Client Simulation in Entry‑Level Hiring

McKinsey & Company plans to have some entry‑level candidates participate in a 10‑minute conversation with an AI simulation of a client as part of the interview process, according to The Wall Street Journal. The simulation is intended to replicate roughly 80% of the scenarios consultants encounter in their daily work and is not designed to mimic an unruly client.

The AI will not evaluate the candidates; instead, human observers will assess how they handle the simulated situations. The tool will be tested this fall for undergraduate applicants seeking business‑analyst positions in select North American offices, with hundreds expected to participate.

Other companies are also developing AI avatar tools for interviews, and a colleague recently tested several for a video.
