Apple partners with LG to launch smart home devices, beginning with a lock, doorbell, and thermostat

Apple is working with LG on a new series of smart‑home products, such as a video doorbell, thermostat, indoor camera and additional items, Bloomberg reports. The gadgets will carry LG branding while connecting to the speculated Apple smart‑home hub slated for unveiling at an October 13 event.

According to Bloomberg, the freshly revealed LG smart‑home equipment stems from a ‘second-party’ collaboration with Apple. Sources indicate the forthcoming range will also feature a deadbolt lock, an outdoor security camera and a floodlight camera.

Many of the devices are expected to support Thread and Matter as Apple undertakes a formal reboot of HomeKit, and the lock will include ultra‑wideband technology that could enable automatic unlocking when a user approaches the door.
