As China dominates the EV market, BMW is responding with advanced electric vehicles. The latest is the iX4, a sporty coupe-style SUV based on the iX3.
This iX4 offers a more dynamic take on the iX3, equipped with the potent Gen6 battery that delivers exceptional range.
As the third model on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, after the iX3 and i3, the iX4 will debut with the 50 xDrive variant in March 2027, followed by a performance-oriented M60 xDrive later in 2027. BMW sees this series as a defense against the influx of Chinese EVs harming European competitors. Although the iX4 excels in range and technology, its ability to match China’s affordability remains doubtful.
Priced at $66,200 before destination fees, the iX4 50 xDrive features the Gen6 battery with 112.2kWh capacity, an 800-volt system for rapid charging, and an EPA-estimated range of up to 428 miles.
This range surpasses that of the Tesla Model Y, the top-selling EV globally. BMW’s range figures are so impressive that InsideEVs questions if they are excessive, given that Tesla and others succeed with mid-300s miles, while Lucid faces challenges despite over 500 miles.
